Sometimes a house can be an energy drain, sucking up power and wasting precious resources. That is where the nonprofit Home Energy Squad comes in.
"Every house has some opportunity," said Stacy Boots Camp from HES.
HES visits homes and checks for many things, including air leaks. The cost to have them visit is $70. The goal is to save you more than that in future energy bills.
The program recently put Colleen Larson's Plymouth home through an energy fitness test.
"I feel drafts in the winter and just wanted to see how we could improve that as well," said Larson.
HES also installs fluorescent LED lights. Each bulb saves up to $5 a year. It also focuses on insulation, heating, the water heater, faucet aerators and shower heads.
"The faucet aerators save not only on the amount of water being used, but on the natural gas bill," Boots Camp said.
The HES inspection is thorough. HES is supported by CenterPoint Energy and Xcel Energy.
"I would recommend it highly," said Larson.
